Fabrication at Club-Interior Scale

An indoor mascot at this size is a different build from an outdoor monument, and the difference is mostly in the shell. With no wind load and no UV duty, the laminate can be laid up thinner and the armature simplified to a light frame that carries the figure’s own weight plus the occasional hand on a shoulder. That reduces both cost and weight, which matters when the piece has to be carried through a service door and set on a finished floor.

The model is worked at full size in clay or foam, then moulded in sections so the shell can be released cleanly around the billiard cue and the underside of the coat. Mould splits are positioned where the finished surface will be least visible — normally the back of the head and the underside of the arms — so that seam dressing does not have to be perfect on a face that customers look at from a metre away.

Interior Presentation, Lighting & Floor Protection

Interior latex paint over FRP is the practical choice here: it can be touched up on site without a spray booth, and the colour can be matched to the club’s existing interior scheme. The finish is satin rather than high gloss, because gloss in a low-ceiling interior creates hotspots under the room’s own downlights and makes the figure read smaller than it is.

The base is the element most often under-thought indoors. It needs to spread the load over a finished floor without drilling into it, so the usual solution is a weighted or bolted-through plinth with a felt or rubber interface, sized so that the figure cannot be tipped by someone leaning on it. If the club expects to move the piece for events, the plinth becomes reusable and the fixing becomes interlocking rather than permanent.

Care in a Food & Beverage Environment

A club interior brings specific hazards that a museum setting does not: smoke residue, spills, and cleaning chemicals strong enough to dull a painted surface. A wipe-down with a damp cloth and pH-neutral detergent handles most of it. Solvent-based cleaners should be avoided on the face, because they will take the finish sheen unevenly and leave a patch that is visible exactly where the light falls.

High-contact areas — the top of the head, the shoulders, the base rim — will burnish over a year or two of customers leaning on them. That is normal and largely self-limiting, but it is worth deciding at the outset whether the figure is meant to stay showroom-clean or to acquire that patina of use. The second is cheaper and usually the better answer for a bar or club interior.
