2. Project Background

In contemporary metropolitan centers, massive glass curtain walls and concrete skyscrapers often impose a cold, rigid, and fast-paced atmosphere on citizens. To soften this industrial hardness and elevate the commercial vitality of the shopping district, this project introduces “Nailong”—a widely celebrated, adorable IP animation character.

Placed strategically within a modern landscape belt, the sculpture serves as an emotional bridge, injecting warmth, innocence, and vibrant energy into the nighttime cityscape.

3. Design Concept

The core design philosophy revolves around “Urban Healing & Contrast Aesthetics.”

The Power of Contrast: The installation relies on a striking visual juxtaposition. The vibrant, organic, and plump cartoon figure stands out sharply against the gray checkered pavement and the geometric, cold lines of the surrounding corporate architecture.
Creating a Healing Pocket Park: During the evening, the installation transcends a standalone piece of art. Wrapped in warm-toned fairy lights and accompanied by a romantic pink floral tree, the setup creates a cozy, dreamlike oasis.
Social Media Landmark: This atmosphere transforms a simple pedestrian path into an inviting, therapeutic landmark that actively drives foot traffic and social media engagement (photo check-ins).

4. Material & Craftsmanship

To ensure a perfect visual translation from a 2D digital character to a physical 3D monument, Fiberglass (FRP – Fiber Reinforced Plastics) was selected as the primary medium:

High-Precision Replication: Utilizing CNC foam cutting and manual clay sculpting based on original 3D data ensures a 100% accurate reproduction of Nailong’s signature round contours, cute belly, and expressive eyes.
Delicate Matte Finish: A specialized automotive-grade lacquer with an advanced matte topcoat gives the yellow body a smooth, sophisticated texture. This finish eliminates harsh glares under camera flashes or night illumination.
Weather Resistance: The fiberglass shell offers high color retention, UV resistance, and anti-corrosive properties, preventing fading or cracking under prolonged outdoor exposure to sun and rain.

5. Project Timeline (4–6 Weeks)

Week 1: Concept & Digital Optimization Refining 3D digital renderings, determining structural reinforcement points, and client approval.
Week 2–3: Mold Fabrication & Structuring High-density foam sculpting, fiberglass lay-up, and embedding an internal structural steel frame for ultimate stability.
