Stainless Steel Garden Sphere Fountain — Mirror-Polished Water Feature
1. Project Background
This mirror-polished stainless steel sphere fountain was designed for a modern residential courtyard in California. The client wanted a sculptural water feature that would act as the garden’s focal point — quiet by day, animated by water at night. Our response was a 1.2-meter floating sphere resting on a level water plane, with a thin sheet of water cascading over its full circumference.
2. Key Features
- Material: 304 stainless steel, mirror-polished to an 8K finish
- Diameter: 1.2 meters outer sphere
- Finish: Seamless, hand-polished with marine-grade corrosion resistance
- Water: Recirculating integral pump with LED edge lighting (optional)
- Base: Concealed mounting plinth and drainage ring
- Applications: Courtyards, pools, entry gardens, resort lobbies
3. Fabrication
The sphere was spun and welded from 304 stainless, then hand-polished by skilled metalworkers to achieve a flawless reflection. Because water magnifies every surface imperfection, our polishing tolerance is tighter than for dry-install pieces. The process and tolerances are detailed in our stainless steel types & finishes guide.
4. Water & Lighting Integration
A submerged pump recirculates water through the sphere base, and optional uplights wash the steel with warm or RGB light after dusk. The result is a water feature that reads as clean modern sculpture by day and a luminous centerpiece at night.
5. Delivery & Installation
The sphere shipped as a single pre-assembled unit with a concealed pump housing, simplifying on-site installation to a two-hour task. For residential projects, this compact outdoor sculpture material guide helps clients compare stainless steel against FRP and bronze before committing to a piece.
